For those people who prefer to enjoy the outdoors during their time away, Mexico City has the perfect answer. Chapultepec Park, located in the midst of the city, is one of the largest parks in the entire Western Hemisphere. Locally, it is known as the “Bosque de Chapultepec.” It features lovely wooded areas, along with some magnificent sculptures and fountains.
The park also boasts several less natural attractions, including a zoo, among several museums. You could pass the entire day exploring the park and its cultural activities including the Chapultepec Castle.
History in the Heart of the City
If you want to take in as many landmarks as possible in a short period of time, we would have to recommend the city’s Centro Historico. It is 10 acres of historic buildings, landmarks, and cultural centres. Some of the highlights include the Zócalo, which is the second-largest public square in the world. Here, you will also find the Palacio National, which is the seat of power for the Mexican government’s executive. Ad if you walk to the next corner you will find the Templo Mayor museum. A historical museum dedicated to the Aztecs.

While exploring the Centro Historico, you must not forget to visit the Palacio de Bellas Artes. This exceptional museum is known as the “Cathedral of Art in Mexico.” The Palacio is not only the home to many important sculptures, paintings, and photographs, but also hosts many important dance and theatre performances throughout the year. One of the most important cultural hub in Mexico City, the Palacio de Bellas Artes was declared a UNESCO artistic monument in 1987.
Learn About the Life Behind the Art
Frida Kahlo is one of the most important artists to have emerged from Mexico, with her influence spanning the globe over. She is revered for themes pertaining to Mexican national identity and celebrated as a pioneer in her depiction of the female form and experience.
Take the opportunity to learn about Frida Kahlo’s personal life story at her Museum. Also known as “the blue house” for its cobalt-blue exteriors. This museum offers an important glimpse into the life of this famous artist, and the inspiration behind her paintings. And of course, you will be able to browse through a selection of her work!

And if you are looking to bring home a souvenir, but want to pick up something more unique than at the airport’s gift shop, we would recommend the Bazar del Sabado. The Bazar del Sabado is a weekly market that opens on Saturdays. The city’s best artisans exhibit their newest pieces, from decorative sugar skulls to hand-woven fabrics.
Enjoy browsing from beautiful artisanal stands full of vibrant colours. You will enjoy the market simply for its sights and whenever you shop something you are supporting local artisans.
Discover the Angel of Independence
If you are staying near the city’s centre, in an apartment like the Magenta Reforma, you are lucky enough to find yourself beside one of Mexico City’s most prominent landmarks. El Angel de la Independencia sits in the middle of the Paseo de la Reforma roundabout. It was built in 1910, as part of the celebrations for Mexico’s century of independence.
