There’s been a lot written about Montreal’s great food trucks, poutine places, and bagel houses – but if you’re looking for something a little more, well, luxurious, you’ve come to the right place. Montreal is, after all, rooted in European culture, which you’ll notice in the architecture, the fashion, and the gastronomy. Here are three of our favourite spots to go for a really sophisticated, indulgent meal in Montreal:

Toqué! (900 pl. Jean-Paul-Riopelle): Celebrity chef Normand Laprise recently won a coveted award for his cookbook of the same name, but there are still delightful surprises in the dishes he serves up in this glass-walled mecca for foodies. The menu changes daily based on what ingredients the chef finds daily at the market, but the duck and wild venison are staples on the menu and you should try to sample at least one of these incredible offerings.

Les 400 Coups (400 Notre Dame Est): A refined experience that plates up contemporary French dishes – you won’t be disappointed with this intimate Montreal gem. Decor is best described as ‘upscale rustic’, with bare wood tables, moody black walls, and artistic photos of Paris. Go for the five-course tasting menu paired with wines, it’s so indulgent you’ll want to walk back to your accommodation..!

Le Club Chasse et Pêche (423 Rue Saint-Claude): If you’re looking from something romantic in one of the most beautiful parts of Montreal, this is the spot. This French culinary establishment is a real treat for wine lovers, and boasts private importations on it’s list – so you’ll be drinking wines you can’t find anywhere else in Montreal. The setting is dark and luxurious – it really feels like a private supper club – and the menu is a heady collection of gastronomic favourites; lobster, fois gras, oysters, presented like carefully plated pieces of art will impress anyone’s date and leave you both wanting more.
