City Beaches To Visit In Montreal

by | Aug 21, 2014 | Canada, City Guides, Montreal

Montreal is the 8th largest city in North America and the second biggest in Canada, after Toronto. It was named a UNESCO City of Design, It’s got incredible festivals, restaurants, and bars, and yet some vacationers skip it because it’s so far from the ocean. But Montreal is nothing if not inventive – and we’ve found a nice little collection of man-made beaches for your sun-worshipping needs!

The Clock Tower Beach is very close to the historical district (and close to many of our luxury apartments) which makes it super accessible whenever you want to take a quick time out from the city. The Old Port of Montreal’s beach has an impressive entrance (it’s located at the foot of the Clock Tower) and it has a lot of loungers, parasols and fine sand – the perfect recipe for a day of fun in the sun.

Another popular beach is the one situated along the shores of Lake Deux-Montages, in the Parc du Cap-Saint-Jacques, the largest park in Montreal. The place is packed with fun activities: besides the usual swimming and fishing – you can rent a kayak, a canoe or a paddle boat. After that you can use one of the barbeque grills available to make lunch for everybody or, if you’re not in the mood,  head over to the handy snack bar.

On a small island in the St. Lawrence River you’ll find Jean Drapeau Park, another national park that comes with an ingenious little beach. For this one you’ll have to pay a fee, but you have a swimming area that’s limited by buoys, a beach volleyball court and the same picnic facilities available in Parc du Cap-Saint-Jacques, along with the snack bar. The difference is that there’s also a restaurant here if you feel like having lunch served to you. You can rent a kayak, a canoe or a paddle boat and, coolest of all, this spot offers wakeboarding too!
