Business lunch? Try these excellent restaurants in Montreal’s Old Port

Located in the historic district of Old Montreal, the Old Port neighbourhood is one of the most beautiful places in Montreal. The waterfront location makes for a gorgeous backdrop for tourists and locals alike as they shop, people watch or simply relax and wander. Fortunately for us, this picturesque setting inspires creativity, so some of the best chefs in Montreal have their restaurants here. You will be sure to find the perfect culinary treat after a busy day taking in the ambience of Vieux Port.

Restaurant da Emma

Located in the basement of a former women’s prison (the first in Montreal), this intimate restaurant offers authentic, rustic Italian cuisine. It looks and feels like an Italian trattoria that has been taken straight from Roma and placed in the streets of Montreal. The walls are lined with pictures of celebrities who have dined there, so check it out to see if you can find your favourite star (and maybe come back when you think they might be there again…..)

Mercuri

Joe Mercuri and his team offer diners an Italian and French inspired fine dining menu, with immaculately presented dishes made from fresh and local ingredients. The restaurant space is a converted Old Montreal loft featuring high ceilings, exposed brick walls and wooden beams. It’s a pricey menu but you can expect an evening of exquisite food and wine in return for your holiday dollars.

Garde Manger

A visit to Garde Manger is not complete without at least a taste of their signature lobster poutine. Nestled in the heart of the district, Garde Manger described as “fun”, “warm” and “inviting” and serves up generous portions of some of the best Montreal has to offer. You will need a booking well in advance to dine here.

Gibbys

Gibbys is the epitome of Old Montreal style. The restaurant is located in a 200 year old building that boasts stone walls, converted stables and an old iron gate amongst its decorative features. In summer, diners head outside to the courtyard to enjoy the weather, while in winter, fireplaces and cocktails make the dimly lit interior a cosy place to be. The menu is mainly centred around traditional fare of seafood and steak (with generous portions) and each meal includes a famous garlic pickle to begin, and bread with bacon bits as a side. Bring your appetite to this one.
